Chanticleer and the Foxy Vet

I just noticed that Liz has the Garfield equivalent of the haircut Thel used to have in The Family Circus. Those of you who understand that this blog is not about hating but loving Garfield will probably be unsurprised that I like Family Circus a lot. Yes, this takes precedence over ...

WHAT THE FUCK happened to Liz' receptionist? Old Nel lost about half her body mass, had her hair thin out, and bought a more accurately colored Odie doll since we last saw her.

Other awesomeness:
-Liz is left-handed. We have surmised that sometimes Jon is also a left-o, so maybe it's not such a bad mismatch. Yes, you read me: all people have to have in common to fall in love is being left-handed. However, one cares for animals, and the other feeds his cat cake and entire hams.

-The physical proximity of our trio in panel three is uncomfortable even if one is not caught acting like a rooster. As Garfield seems to note with some happiness, things are gonna get mighty cozy in examining room 2 this week.

Other questions:

- Why has Dr. Liz opted to sandwich a hinged-door filing cabinet in the corner of her 5x8 exam room? Would the seemingly endless void behind the receptionist's desk perhaps be a better location for Billing?

- Why is there a Panic Button on top of the filing cabinet?

- Exactly how many days in a row has Jon worn that outfit? Or are we to assume that Garfield had a birthday, Jon got an e-mail, Jon made a vet appointment, and the two of them arrived at the vet in the course of a day?!? That would be quite a hectic schedule for such an idle pair. Besides, I long for the day that Arbuckle appears in that hypothetical salmon blazer. Someday....someday....

Actually, you make a good point about the rate time passes in the Garfield world.
If one were willing to ignore the "Garfield is a god" theory (I am willing to do no such thing, by the way), it's really the only way to explain how he could possibly have lived twice as long as a normal cat, all the while living on a diet of Italian foods and pastries.
Furthermore, perhaps each daily comic represents a single hour of Garfield's day a la 24.

I like the "24" theory. But if Jon could manage to get a same-day vet appointment, I question why he would then have to sit 3 hours in the waiting room.

I'd like to think that his "what-if" blazers are taunting him as he wallows in his own one-blue-shirt-per-month squallor and filth! It would explain his bad luck with the ladies quite well.

I know this is several days late, but I have to disagree with your lefty theory re: Liz. Actually most right-handed health care practitioners tend to hold the chart/clipboard in their left hands, so they can write with their right hands. Unless you're referring to the watch on her right wrist, but that's probably just a mistake. Unless she's ambidextrous? About to switch the clipboard to the right hand? A watch-wearing rebel?

I'm talkin' 'bout the watch, doc.

I think that thing is an autoclave with a red light on it, not file cabinet... and I think Jon has only one shirt other than his button-down ugly-date-outfit shirt, although it occasionally changes color. I also think if you get a same-day vet appointment, you can expect to wait three hours... because they probably put him on "squeeze you in" the doctor's waiting room equivalent of "flying stand-by". And of course Garfield is a god... if he's not Mystique which I'm still not sure of.

Also, perhaps he's lived this long BECAUSE OF his diet. Who knows what effect it might have on a cat? After all no one's tried it I'll venture.
